In Simpler Terms: Design is the Details

Earlier this summer as I was working on the embroidery project I shared with you here, a friend of my mom asked me what design was.  I wasn’t sure what the definition was or how exactly to describe it.

Today I bought these Amy Butler embellishments.  Maybe some of you remember past posts where I’ve talked about how much I love Amy’s patterns?  I think  there were a couple!!  So as you might have guessed I was pretty excited!  And they were a great deal!

As I was making this card, cutting the paper, gluing the tissue paper ruffle, and adhering the Amy Butler embellishments, it came to me what design is.

Design is in the details.

Amy Butler cares about the details for her every product.  Take for instance this beautiful journal and how there is a gorgeous pattern along the page centers.

Or the back of the packaging for her embellishments.  She has these fun words and designs that she encourages you to cut out and use!

I know this was a long post, but it was something that was on my mind.  So the next time you are crafting remember to pay close attention to the small things!

Also, here is a list of the elements of design in case you were wondering more about design!!  Form, space, line, colour, shape, texture, and value.

Thank you for taking the time to read all about my life, thoughts, and creative projects!
